Tasting Notes
6 bottles of Zweigelt 2023, Christoph Bauer and 6 bottles of Zweigelt Reserve 2022, Christoph Bauer.
The Zweigelt Reserve 2022 has a wonderful perfumed aroma, a little of Pinot Noir and a little of something a bit Rhone-like, but there is something about it that is a bit eastern and exotic. The aroma is like a punnet of red fruit warmed in the sun, with warm spices beckoning you in, and then there are hints of cedar wood and mahogany that reminds me of opening the lid of a grand piano that's been shut for a while. The Zweigelt 2023 is very classical as a red wine, like we used to drink more of before reds became bigger and richer, and bit more Claret/Bordeaux. That's what makes this, I think, so good with such a wide variety of food. You can really drink this as a easygoing midweek wine. It's been chosen by the Association of Wine Educators of the UK as their example of Zweigelt to use in tastings for students.
