The 2019 is dazzling straight out of the blocks with its flavours of key lime pie, fresh lime zest, lilies, white pepper and chalky notes. As we've seen year on year with the Family White, it ages exceptionally well, and in just a few years will flourish into something more opulent- honeyed, multilayered and more rounded, still with that hallmark savoury, ultra long finish. The 2019 is just over 50% Chenin, with close to equal quantities Semillon and Roussanne, and some Viognier, Grenache and Palomino, all handpicked from mostly old vineyards planted on the decomposed granite slopes of Kalmoesfontein. Fermented and aged in one 1200 and one 3000L foudre,
We firmly believe that Adi Badenhorst is the most exciting winemaker in South Africa. He is also the most frustrating. His laid back, self-deprecating, playful manner keeps you guessing and makes you wonder whether he has any idea what he is actually doing, whether he just chucks some grapes into a vat and hopes for the best, but we know full well that there is a huge amount of expertise that goes on behind closed doors, when no one is around to witness his skill and diligence ...and spoil his reputation!
FROM THE PRESS
“Previously known as Family White, this co-fermented blend of Chenin Blanc with 46% Semillon, Roussanne, Viognier, Grenache Blanc and Palomino is now named after Adi Badenhorst's home farm. Peppery, savoury and intense, with aniseed and honeysuckle aromas, good texture, subtle oak and a pithy, stony finish. 94 points. Drink 2022-28”Tim Atkin MW
