Just Arrived - Kumeu River Chardonnays
Our allocation, direct from the Kumeu River winery in Auckland, has just arrived!
I've been a huge fan of Kumeu River ever since I had my first sip, many years ago. The problem has always been getting hold of it and it gets no easier. Just two years ago, 'Mate's Vineyard' was rated No 1 wine in the world by a famous journalist's wine review. We take all of that with a pinch of salt, but you can see, they are in the spotlight.
We are delighted to receive an allocation of the 2023s, along with the Village 2024.
A little about the three wines in this offer:
The 'Estate' Chardonnay is one of the finest values in the world. It's a wonder that it is still so well priced for a wine of this quality. Jancis Robinson, who has always been a fan, wrote of the 2021, "A fair copy of a fine Chassagne! Good value" Jancis Robinson MW
'Rays Road'
The 'Village' Chardonnay is terrific value. As Kumeu River say, "The perfect aperitif Chardonnay, it's a wine that pairs very well with all types of seafood. Fermented 40% in old French oak barriques, and 60% in stainless steel tanks there is very little oak influence on either nose or palate. This has allowed the vibrant fruit to show through beautifully with lively lime and lemon aromas and a flinty, mineral edginess with hints of fig and white peach."
