Tasting Notes

Max 3 bottles per person - if you buy more, we will be unable to supply, and will refund you. Made from extremely low-yielding Grenache grown on slate. Restrained, mineral, pure and ethereal. The texture is mesmerising, with the sort of nuance one would expect from a top Burgundy. This is very far from being a rosé for rosé’s sake, and the Grenache is simply a medium for highlighting the terroir – a job it does perfectly. Possibly the best rosé I have tried in my life. Very pale salmon colour, bone-dry in style with concentration and elegance.

More Info

Established in 2006 by Germany-born Thomas Teibert, the biodynamically farmed Domaine de L’Horizon is located in the tiny plot of terroir heaven that is Calce, Roussillon. This remote Catalan village in the foothills of the Pyrenees has been known for its wines since the middle ages, but it’s only in very recent times, thanks to Thomas, along with the likes of fellow biodynamics practitioners Gérard Gauby (Domaine Gauby) and Tom Lubbe (Domaine Matassa), that the village has come to worldwide attention.  It’s all down to the terroir here. There’s a lot of chalk among a mosaic of soil types – from multi-coloured slate and schist to iron-rich marl to alluvial gravel – which Thomas likens to the Cote d’Or.  Yields are tiny (10-20 hl/ha), while vinification is performed as naturally as possible, with indigenous yeast and minimal SO2 (average: 30 mg/l total).
