Tasting Notes
It's back, Ferragu! A wine the locals love. I recently tried the 2019 Valpolicella. I drank it with some barbequed lamb chops with rosemary, and my memory of the first time I tasted this wine came flooding back. This 2019 is just as you may remember, beautifully sensual to drink, hedonistic, and moreish with enough herb or spice to keep the palate dry on the finish. It's not too big to drink with food. And, my, does it slip down ever so easily. The bottle was polished off by four of us in not time at all, instead of two to three, for the Amarone. But compare this Valpolicella to the Amarone of most producers and it's more delicious, more drinkable and better value.

I don't think we've been asked for any wine more than Ferragu, which we first starting shipping in 2009, after discovering it in the Enoteca del Soave. The wine is modelled on that of his hero and neighbour, Romano Dal Forno, whose equivalent wine, also called Valpolicella, and gets massive praise from the press. Ferragu still shuns the limelight, and his wines do not seem to be submitted to famous journalists. But we like that. It makes wines like this a bit of a secret preserve of wine lovers rather than investors. It's also about half the price of Dal Forno.
