A serious trophy winner! Supreme Champion Best Classic Cuvee Vintage and Top Sparkling at the WineGB awards 2023. And it's the wine that outscored both Krug and Dom Perignon '09 at a tasting hosted by the late Stephen Spurrier at 67 Pall Mall, and a Decanter World Wine Awards DWWA 2018 Platinum Medal. 65% Chardonnay from greensand soils, which bring great power, structure and taughtness, with the remainder Pinot Noir and Meunier with over 8 years on lees. Lemon curd and meringues, anise, pear and a leesily lifted finish that really lingers. Zippy and sherbety on the palate - a serious sushi wine.
One of England's most awarded wineries, as made by the brilliant Dermot Sugrue. Named after Sir Kenelm Digby, the polymath and inventor of the first strong glass that made it possible to bottle sparkling wine, Digby was established by founders Jason Humphries and Trevor Clough after they took a life-affirming trip to the Napa Valley to escape the grind of London corporate life. After talking to top producers around the world, they opted to buy grapes from the best vineyards rather than settle on one vineyard site, establishing contracts and relationships with quality-obsessed growers across a diverse range soil types across the southeast: chalk, greensand and clay soil sites. It's given them the flexibility ever since to make blends that represent the very best vineyards in England.
FROM THE PRESS
“DWWA 2018 Platinum Medal: Toasty, nutty and biscuity on the nose with some evolution evident. The palate is generous but maintains tension with bright acidity, precise green apple fruit and savoury marine notes. Long and intense on the finish.”Decanter magazine
