From the Germain's monopole vineyard, this is generously scented: squishy ripe blackberries and cherry compote with a hint of game. The clay-rich site confers richness and an element of decadence to the palate, with real power on the finish and velvety, just textured tannins.

Philippe switched a high-flying career in insurance in Paris for taking over his family domaine in the village of Nantoux, a stone's throw from Meursault. The estate has grown under his stewardship, taking their vineyard holdings to 13ha in 6 villages across the Cote de Beaune. They are HVE certified - or Haute Valeur Environmentale - an alternate environmental certification to organics centred on the principles of agroecology. Zero use of herbicide or insecticide, the adoption of low impact techniques and great importance placed on improving soil health, its water and CO2 holding capacity, and improving biodiversity in all areas.
