Tasting Notes
Plum and coffee on the nose, brambly fruit and hint of brush and earthy notes, with something almost Christmassy too - dried orange peel, clove and spice. The palate is soft, supple and with a brooding dark fruited note countering the youthful redcurrant and cherry flair, There's a sappy note too, and it finishes long. Drink 2023-2038.
More Info
It's thanks to the Buisson brothers of Saint-Romain that we were introduced to Domaine Jessiaume last year. Vigneron William Waterkyn joined the domaine in 2014 fresh faced, and full of energy in his mid 20s and has overseen the conversion of the farming to organics, gaining their certification in 2019, now en route to certified biodynamics. He's a young winemaker with a natural flair, and his talent has not gone unnoticed. In February last year, he was named as Burgundy's Young Talent of the Year, and just a week later, was cited in Decanter Magazine as one of the top 10 producers to watch. One can not dumb down the losses in vintage 2020 in Burgundy. Domaine Jessiaume's total production was around 70% less than the average year, and so we are delighted to have the quantities we have.
