Tasting Notes

"This wine is spectacular!" - Customer July 2024"Bacchus has been a constant development for me as a winemaker.  It is a very complex variety to work with and a little finicky in the vineyard too!  My relationship with Bacchus has evolved, starting from making a precise stainless steel fermented wine in 2016 to working with oak and developing the popular Bacchus Fumé... A rounded style of Bacchus presenting our best expression of the variety. Inspired by our Bacchus Fumé 2022 (the higest scoring Bacchus in the UK), the Fumé 2023 is our only release of Bacchus from the last vintage." - Winemaker Ben Witchell, Flint Vineyards

More Info

Following a passion is what landed Ben Flint with 6 hectares under-vine, a state-of-the-art winery in the beautiful Earsham area of Norfolk, and now leading the English premium wine sense. Quitting his career in the IT sector saw Ben move to Suffolk and undertake a 3-year Oenology and Viticulture at Plumpton College, upping sticks to Beaujolais where he lived and breathed winemaking for years before coming home to start making super premium English wines that are rather hard to get hold of.

FROM THE PRESS

“The end result is a crisp, fresh, invigorating Bacchus led by the familiar characters of lime, grapefruit, pear and grass, but with subtle herby and spiced notes. Suggestions of basil, almond and ginger will keep you returning. Once again, one of the best Bacchus on the market right now.”
Greatbritishwine.com
“The 2023 Fumé is a pure Bacchus that partially fermented in used oak (40%). The nose is very subtle but clearly aflame with the purest citrus aroma that reminds of ripe Amalfi lemon peel. Only a slight hint of the varietal scentedness trails. The palate is supremely bright, sinuous and just at the right juncture of creamily smooth and citrus-spiky, a most alluring combo. It has body and incredible verve, with just a touch of summer blossom thrown in. The 2023 is a beautiful rendition of Bacchus with ample length and freshness.”
