Tasting Notes

Citrus and stone fruit steal the show with the subtlest of oak spice adding complexity. Think Chablis-like flintiness but with a tantalising hint of New World exoticism. We are deep within crystalline-loveliness territory with Tom's Red Claw Chardonnay. Think crispness and purity. unalloyed, palate-enlivening, gastronomic joy. It is, indubitably, a winner. Now might be the time to get on the phone to your friendly local fishmonger and ask him very nicely what he has in the crustacean department (lobster, to go with melted butter, boiled potatoes and spinach, being a distinct preference)...

More Info

Red Claw are brilliant Mornington Peninsula producer Yabby Lake's 'drink now' range of delicious wines made entirely from their grapes and with their signature care and attention. Lured to join Yabby Lake by the incredible efforts and attention to deal that were put into establishing the vineyard in terms of site and soil analysis, it's here that winemaker Tom has truly become known as a don of Pinot Noir. And his Chardonnay ain't half bad either! Tom is a true winemaker's winemaker, an uber-geek known for his forensic attention to detail.

FROM THE PRESS

““While you are waiting five or six years for my headline wine to soften, sink your teeth into 2019 Red Claw Chardonnay. This is a finely tuned wine with a stunning price and a couple of years under its belt, too, and it is a long way from the Red Claw of years gone by! This 2019 is a genuine Yabby-shaped wine, and it is drinking now. I used to ship Red Claw many moons ago, and the 2008 vintage was a ‘by the glass’ option on one of my wine lists. Back then, it was a smooth, yummy glugger, but fast-forward to this 2019, and it is an extremely serious and beautifully refined wine.””
