Fabulous fruit and concentration on the nose and heavenly perfume- peonies and pink peppercorns, with a little lavender and soft beaten leather alongside perfectly ripe cherry fruit, and raspberry coulis. These gorgeous flavours carry through to the palate, with a little darker fruit too, new season hay, polished coffee bean and very long, slightly savoury finish with nicely integrated tannins and refreshing acids. From winemaker Adi: 'this vintage is marked by some restraint but with fabulous fruit too. I expect it to mature very slowly and will be drinking at its best in 2027."
We firmly believe that Adi Badenhorst is the most exciting winemaker in South Africa. He is also the most frustrating. His laid back, self-deprecating, playful manner keeps you guessing and makes you wonder whether he has any idea what he is actually doing, whether he just chucks some grapes into a vat and hopes for the best, but we know full well that there is a huge amount of expertise that goes on behind closed doors, when no one is around to witness his skill and diligence ...and spoil his reputation!
FROM THE PRESS
“Consisting primarily of Syrah, Cinsault and Grenache but also multiple other varieties, these co-fermented. The nose is quite heady with notes of red and black berries, lavender, fennel and fynbos while has plenty of ripe fruit and fine tannins – full of flavour with an nicely savoury finish. 93/100”Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za
