Tasting Notes

Aren't you just gorgeous? The 2020 Barolo vintage is outstanding, and this is a fab example. Pencil shavings, orange oil and roses, with lovely plums and dark cherry fruit carrying through to the palate. It has a charming softness and approachability, with some spice, soft leather and a little bit of coffee, and 'just there' tannins. Impressive length too. While Renato has a couple of famous 'crus' - the vineyards of Arborina and Rocche dell'Annunziata - his Barolo del Commune di La Morra is surely one of the best values from Barolo, full stop. It nails that perfect combination of approachability and ageworthiness - right now, you can give it a good swirl and drink it now, or pop it away in the cellar for 6-8 years or so.

More Info

Representing one of our longest-standing relationships in Italy, the wines of Renato Corino have delighted Swig and its customers for over a decade. Renato set out on his own from the family winery in 2003 (under good terms, you understand – his brother helped him with his first vintage). He had his own ideas on how to make great Barolo in La Morra, and wanted to show the world. A mix of modern techniques in the winery and traditional care of the vines yields up Barolos that are more approachable than many of their brethren, but also stand the test of time. There is often a wild, rich intensity to them that you don’t see in Renato’s brother’s estate (called Corino as well). Renato has some of the finest sites in La Morra in the heart of Barolo all farmed sustainably.
