The Wanderlust project allows Craig Wessels to flex his creative muscles – the wine changes every year, inspired by the lesser-known, the unconventional and the long-forgotten. And in 2020 - a Pinot Noir, inspired by the Cistercian monks of Burgundy, doing things the ultra-old fashioned way, with lots of buckets, foot stomping and gravity! And it's a beautiful thing. Translucent, lifted red fruit, with a hint of tea leaves and umami, and fragrant cherry blossom, a sprinkle of spice and gentle hint of forest fruits and moss too. The palate is so invigorating - just a hint of savoury, leather and earthiness, with fine tannins and very long finish. Both ethereal and nicely concentrated on the finish too. Drinking well now and will age beautifully.

Restless River is a rising star which has quietly achieved cult-status for its brilliant, Burgundian-style Chardonnay and ultra-elegant Cabernet Sauvignon. Launched in 2012 by Craig Wessels, who, alongside his successful career in digital production, also raced motorbikes and flew helicopters around the Cape, along with his ex-model wife Anne, their farm is located in the beautiful Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. It's home to some of the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay vines in the region (planted in 1998). At Restless River, things are done in an unhurried way, with great dedication and attention to detail. Almost all their production is done by hand, resulting in limited quantities of each wine, and demand far exceeding supply.
