A testament to the combined efforts and expertise of estate managers Richard and Kirsty Goring, and winemaker Dermot Sugrue – widely regarded as a lynchpin of the English sparkling wine industry - these accolades have helped to confirm Wiston Estate as a genuine trailblazer of quality English sparkling wine.
Winemaking at Wiston Estate is directed by Dermot Sugrue, who brings his unrivalled experience in English sparkling winemaking to the Wiston portfolio. Taking inspiration from his previous work in Champagne, Dermot prefers to use old Jacques Prieur Burgundy barrels for fermentation and ageing of Wiston’s vintage wines and his approach to winemaking is all about patience – as such Wiston sparkling wines will only ever be released once they have reached pitch-perfect readiness.
FROM THE PRESS
“This makes every bit of me tingle. Bring me a slice of champion cheese and I'm in heaven!”Olly Smith, Three Wine Men May 2018
“This rich, complex single-vineyard wine has aromas of apple and hints of strawberries, rhubarb and nectarines on the palate, along with brioche and nutty influences, with a return to fruitiness for the elegant finish. Made from barrel-fermented pinot noir, with unceasing fine bubbles, you know you’re drinking something very special right from the first sip. And yet this is their first ever vintage blanc de noirs. Don’t hang around though - only 3,000 bottles were made by this family-owned South Downs vineyard.”Kate Hilpern, The Independent May 2018
“Tangy, focused and complex, this is fine, bready and long, with subtle red fruits and a mouth-watering finish.”Tim Atkin MW, Three Wine Men May 2018
