Edoardo Miroglio

“Any Burgundy lover would be impressed by this wine’s delicacy – and its price” Jancis Robinson MW on the Soli Pinot Noir

We’re proud to have been one of the first agents to bring high-quality Bulgarian wine to the attention of UK wine drinkers, and Edoardo Miroglio has always been our Number One. Wine lover Edoardo searched high and low to find the perfect spot to grow Pinot Noir in Bulgaria. The piece of land he chose is on the eastern side of the Thracian Valley. The Saint Ilia hills shade the area from the freezing Baltic winds while a natural lake nearby regulates the temperature, but Miroglio is no fool, he has had extensive tests and research done just to confirm his theories. He purchased the land in 1998 and by 2004 they had produced their first vintage.

Everything at Miroglio is done to the best of their abilities with state of the art equipment. This attention to detail also extends to the people involved with Miroglio bringing in the incredibly talented Alberto Le Rosa (ex Luciano Sandrone Barolo viticulturist) and Bulgaria's top lady winemaker, Desislava Baicheva, who both only joined the team as they could see the excellent potential of the wines having tasted the earliest vintages.

As the vines here age and the team gains more insight into the nuances of the Thracian Valley terroir, these wines go from strength to strength. It has been incredibly rewarding over the last two years to taste how much better the whites have become, finally achieving similar quality levels to the amazing Pinot Noirs, which regular Swig customers will attest to being revelatory wines. Of course, the Pinots are getting better as well. We still blind taste with customers and more often than not they’ll identify the ‘Soli’ as a village-level Beaune at almost twice the price.
