Familia Bastida

We’re often asked which wine region offers the best value. These days, it really has to be Spain: it has a rich winemaking heritage, a huge diversity of terroirs, loads of gnarly old vines with the potential to produce high-quality fruit, a surfeit of interesting grape varieties, and relatively cheap land and production costs.

Based in Don Quixote’s Castilla La Mancha, Familia Bastida produce an incredible-value range of wines from estate fruit. Titos is a full-bodied oaked Garnacha while Biftu is an oaked Bobal from Requena. In each case, dryfarmed, organically grown grapes are harvested by hand and fermented with indigenous yeast. We’re hugely incredibly impressed by what they manage to achieve in the vineyard and cellar. They are modernising but employing all of the techniques and equipment of the artisan movement. Bravo!
