We think Fred Prinz might be our new star. A very special producer for the Rheingau , as well as for Germany more broadly. Though he's new to us, having just discovered him and these special Rieslings this year, he has been grafting for decades,
Winemaking started as a hobby in his garage (a theme for Swig producer it seems) whilst working in wine sales in the village of Hallgarten itself. Slowly but surely, his more hands on hobby took over. He moved from a sales role into actual winemaking, eventually reached the very esteemed Kloster Eberbach winery. But his own project continued to grow. Wine produced from his shrewdly acquired 1.5 hectares, meticulously managed with wife Sabine gained such a reputation that he reached the critical moment when he had to step out a Weingut Prinz as we know it begins. 1.5ha became 2, became 3, today he organically farms just over 11 hectares producing stupendous Riesling. Several of these plots are neighbouring some pretty big names, Jacob-Kuhn a particular highlight. It's not as easy as just having some vines in these areas though and Fred's nous amongst the vines helps take things to the next level. Fred, now working with is Son Florian, as well as Sabine, is producing top tier Riesling.
