Tasting Notes

A new wine to their range, Vara y Pulgar Blanco introduces a new chapter for non-fortified whites in Jerez. It elegantly blends Albariza-soil Palomino Fino with other indigenous Jerez varieties, including Vigiriega Blanca and Malvasía, as well as a touch of other estate-grown grapes. This blend serves to amplify the Palomino grape's inherent character, resulting in a wine with vibrant fruit flavors, ripe freshness, and a pronounced saline minerality. With brightacidity, expressive citrus and stone fruit aromas, and a refreshing, persistent finish, Vara y Pulgar Blanco is crafted for enjoyment and consumption upon release.

More Info

A titan of the Spanish wine industry - introducing Alberto Orte! Oh, where to begin. He’s the guy, at the tender age of 24, who co-founded renowned US based Spanish specialist wine importer, Olé & Obrigado. A farmer, producer and historian all in one, he’s dedicated a huge portion of his life to exploring, identifying and preserving old varieties and clones, and has successfully identified a whopping 200+ old clones of Palomino Fino and Palomino Jerez and revived and re-planted over 20 grape varieties on the brink of extinction. As well as his projects in Jerez, Alberto also makes wine from extraordinary sites in Yecla, Rioja and as we have here, Valdeorras.

FROM THE PRESS

“Freshness and concentration freely frolic in this bottling. Lemon in color, the wine has a bright, fresh nose of white rose petal, bruised bosc pear, papaya skin, yellow apple, orange blossom and white peach. The palate celebrates ripe orchard fruit that washes across wet stone and a persistent layer of acidity that hints at brioche on the finish.”
