Tasting Notes

The really is nothing like tasting the same wine across multiple vintages. Unless you have supreme self control, or a very deep cellar to lose a bottle or two in, it is very rare that you can actually taste a wine in this way.

This plot, known as "Sous La Velle," meaning "under the village," is indeed located precisely below Saint-Romain-le-Haut, at an altitude of 370 meters on the hillside, and extends over two and a half hectares in the heart of the valley. Sixty years old, this symbolic vineyard, which has largely contributed to the appellation's renown, is one of the estate's two founding plots. Planted on marl scree from Saint-Romain, the vines take root in the limestone, thus imparting a beautiful minerality to the wine. The attack is direct, with notes of candied lemon. Then, this dense wine, richer than the others, with complex aromas and multiple layers, opens up to a beautiful saline and iodine vibrancy. A divine union of a mineral world and explosive fruitiness.
