Tasting Notes
what can one say, other than, wow! I love sweet wines, but not every single one. This has balance an poise as well as wonderful amazing fruit sweetness. It's so similar to Vin de Constance, which is about £65 for the equivalent. £16.85 for a 50cl bottle. That's special. It was served by the glass at a top Constantia restaurant we went to a couple of years ago, with owner of Buitenverwachting, Lars Maack, it is was so beautiful. I was drinking this new vintage last night, and it's spot on. It too will last many many years.
More Info
On any trip to South Africa, Buitenverwachting is almost always our first port of call on landing. It is the most wonderful place to sit and taste outside, and enjoy some fine food, with the ever-genial owner and host Lars Maack close by, aided by the brilliant Brad Paton, their highly talented winemaker. Buitenverwachting is a historic Constantia estate, with the name meaning “Beyond Expectation." It originally formed part of the Constantia estate which was founded by Simon Van De Stel, the first Governor of the New Dutch Colony of The Cape, who we know planted vines on.
