Tasting Notes
After the first vintage sold out almost instantly, the 2024 is due to land in February! In late 2022, the Kirby family purchased a 12 hectare property in Campania, Tasmania - deep in the heart of the Coal River Valley. The Kirby family along with general manager and winemaker Tom Carson had long-held a desire to expand the winery’s pinot noir footprint. Tom’s search for the right vineyard soon led him to Tasmania, an incredibly exciting region for pinot noir. Considering this, its unsurprising that on 20% of the vines here are Chardonnay. But, where it is small in number, it is mighty. Lovely bright mid yellow, green tins. Aromas of citrus blossom and orchard fruits, hazelnut and a hint of struck match. The palate is concentrated and rounded with serious texture and mouthfeel, the acidity runs in tandem with the fruit and the finish is precise and long. Cellar for 5-10 years.

Tom Carson is a true winemaker's winemaker, an uber-geek known for his forensic attention to detail Lured to join Yabby Lake by the incredible efforts and attention to detail that were put into establishing the vineyard in terms of site and soil analysis, it's here that winemaker Tom has truly become known as a don of Pinot Noir. And his Chardonnay ain't half bad either!
