Tasting Notes
From next door to Petrus and with the help of the winemaker from Angelus! This fabulous Pomerol is seriously underrated. It is so amazingly wonderful to drink. Each sip is generous but not in the over top way that I've found some famous chateaux in the region trying to be, maybe based on insecurities, thinking "if I'm a £300 bottle of wine I'd better prove it". It's simply that this has a beautiful, luxurious feeling fruit profile, with notes of blackcurrant, plum, chocolate, truffle and tobacco. It was so, so very lovely. At under £50 it is a great buy.
More Info
Maillet Pomerol is a fairly new, hard fought venture from the Moze Berthon family, who have been making wine in Bordeaux for over 200 years. Working just 4.5ha near the St. Emilion border, their 3 parcels are predominantly made up of Merlot (95%), and the remainder Cabernet Franc. It's been the appointment of Hubert de Bouard of Chateau Angelus as consultant, which has firmly placed this Pomerol on the map.
