Tasting Notes
Merry Swigmas! This is your one stop shop for Christmas day. A hand selected half dozen that will please no end, stuffed with some of our favourite wines of the year that will fit the festive occasion very nicely indeed. Tied together with a little discount, if you buy just one case for this Christmas, I'd make it this one!
THE SWEETIE- Keermont's delicious Fleurfontein is divine. 95pts from Neal Martin, the highest its ever scored with him. "...Very elegant and composed on the finish, the 2023 is gorgeous."
THE FIZZ- Dermot Sugrue's Trouble With Dreams has changed the shape of the UK wine market since its 2009 won 'Best in Show' from Decanter this year. This is stupendous, serious traditional method sparkling that can go to war with the best of Champagne.
THE REDS- For something a little more delicate, we thought Berene Sauls' latest Pinot had to feature. It's her best yet, was a standout at our portfolio tasting in September and would go delightfully with Turkey. The other red, was a criminally underrated Renato Corino Barolo from La Morra, which was a winner of over 70 Commune Barolo tasted by the Barolo boys last year.
THE WHITES- I think Sancerre has fallen from the limelight in recent years, partly due to plenty of pretty average examples flooding the supermarkets. However top Sancerre is delicious, complex and can be a very nice food wine. Whilst Burgundy classically takes the floor with a Christmas day meal, this delicious Sancerre could certainly do that. Then the Chardonnay from Yabby Lake is a laser focused, concentrated and clean as any top Chablis I've ever tried. Tom Carson has made another belter and I think it makes perfect sense here.
