Tasting Notes
An extraordinary wine that smells like it will be sweet, and tastes a bit like the flavours of a wine verging to sweetness, but it's completely dry. It's wine with amazing dimensions of aromas and flavours. It has notes of pineapple and just a touch of passion fruit, yet the palate is dry and almost salty. Excellent with roast chicken, pork with dried fruits, slightly but not overly spicy dishes. It's a wow wine. But I would put it as a double black, in skiing terms. You have to be up for something a bit different and know certain styles of wines to appreciate this. Vibrant tropical notes of Victoria pineapple and mango. The nose offers incredible intensity, while the palate follows through with richness, structure, and depth. Bold yet balanced by a fine acidity and fresh energy, this is a powerful wine with impressive complexity. "2023 was chaotic in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The 1,500 mm of rain and high spring temperatures wiped out 70% of our harvest. Faced with such a small harvest, we decided to produce only one wine, representative of the estate and this very complicated vintage. The grapes from each of our terroirs were vinified separately and blended before bottling." Franck Lihour, Winemaker

Jurancon has always been capable of producing sensational and distinct wines but for one reason or another they have not widely known about. However, this winemaker nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees has taken Jurancon to the next level. Franck has an enthusiastic and welcoming attitude to wine and life. His personality is echoed in the Castera wines. Exceptional quality with humility. 4th generation winemaker Franck made wines for over 10 years around the world, where he picked up many ideas to improve the quality of wine back home. He gingerly introduced them to his father, and now has taken over the key decisions in the vineyards and winery.
