Tasting Notes
This is produced from a small plot planted in 1953 that is very near, and directly next to the highly regarded classic Chateauneuf du Pape La Vieille Julienne. It's just not classified as Chateauneuf, hence it being labelled at Côtes du Rhone. You can drink it now, and I would, but it has a serious structure courtesy of the old vine Grenache and will age so well. 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah with great aromatic intensity, and with aromas of red fruits and spices and present, but well-balanced tannins. Sensational value.

To find a producer making this quality that was hitherto unknown is a dream come true. I still can't believe our luck. The secret is that, all along, the wine has been made at the cellar of the Perrins of Chateau de Beaucastel. But the terroir is phenomenal, and so is the attention to detail in the vineyards. The flavours are just amazing. The timing was impeccable - as the winery is just transforming from being a hobby of Jean-Louis Giornal to a business run by his daughter Florence and her husband Thomas.
