Tasting Notes
A beautiful, complete Sancerre, and such a lovely drink, for now, with great ageing potential too. Passionfruit, guava and greengages, with a fabulous tropical zing, quartz stones and comice pear on the finish with a little quince too. Lovely melange of sweet-sour fruit and sherbert-y zing. The finish is broad and very long. An expression of the various best plots Stephane has, and a fantastic signature wine and dinner party wine.
More Info
We've found over the years that the wine producers who never get back to you are the best. And so it was with Stephane Cherrier......! Having heard exciting things about him, we made the major diversion on our trip to Burgundy in February 2022 to meet vigneron Stephane in person. What a brilliant decision that was. Located in the tiny village of Verdigny just northwest of Sancerre, he farms a scattering of hillside parcels totalling 13ha; 10 planted to Sauvignon and the remaining 3 to Pinot Noir on rocky Kimmeridgian limestone, organically too. As his father didn't bottle and instead sold the wine to other producers, Stephane is actually the one putting the name on the map. Stylistically, the domaine is about elegance, restrained power and making a lovely drink that blends beautifully with food, and ages superbly too
