Tasting Notes
'The delightful 2022 Plexus, a blend of Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvèdre, has superb fruit purity. While starting a little shy, it builds momentum with time. Old leather and roasted spices and meats begin before plummy richness builds and offers strong support. This is elegance personified, and it has a lovely lightness of touch throughout, although with solid tannins in support. It will age well in a bottle.' 93 points, Angus Hughson, Vinous, July 2024

On leaving Penfold's, where John Duval had been making Australia's most amazing and collected wine, Grange, spanning three decades, including overlapping with the originator of the wine, Max Schubert, John Duval knew all of the sources of the best grapes and the growers were friends. So when he left and made his own wine in 2003 he knew exactly where to buy the grapes and how to make great wine. Quietly, you could say he's been making a junior Grange all along. In fact, you might even prefer it. I'm a great believer in it and its quality for the price. John is a humble man, and it's one of the reasons his wine remains so incredibly well priced. It's one of those weird ones, whereby if it had become £100 a bottle it might be in even more demand, but I would say, great, it's just the right price. Well, better than the right price. And thank you to John, and his son Tim, who is now just as involved.
