Tasting Notes
The ultimate comfort wine, that is so warming and relaxing to drink. With 10% of the wine being produced with the appassimento technique, the flavours are concentrated, soft and rounded with a hint of spice. Ripe black cherry compote, violets and mixed spice, with a lovely sweetness to the nose akin to the aroma that drifts out of a freshly opened box of dark chocolate truffles. It's silky, and dangerously easy to drink without heaviness.
More Info
We've been following the developments of Andrea Rinaldi for over a decade, after we put our noses into a huge bowl glass of Barbera at a wine fair in Verona and fell head over heels for it. Rinaldi is a family-run operation, established in 1961 by Ortese Rinaldi and now in the hands of Ortese's son Andrea and daughter Paola. The grapes are sourced from their own vineyards situated on the hills of 'Valporcile' in Asti in the locality of Ricaldone, average vine age around 30 years, on pure limestone soils.
