Tasting Notes
"The nose has it all. When wine is this good on the nose you don't need to taste it. I was taught that by my mentor. I then nosed it for about a minute before sipping it to just fully appreciate the depth and complexity and even balance you can pick up on. On the palate it's got finesse, and restraint and coolness, yet lovely fine intensity with sour raspberry and cherry notes and just a hint of fine bitter herbs, and then with opening a little bit of wood. You must let this wine open and develop and also keep some for a few years." Robin Davis, Swig Founder

In Piedmont, Gian Luca Colombo is the guy that everyone talks about. The architect of the neo-classical style of Barolo focusing on wines with real finesse: silky, elegant, perfumed, fine fruit, with gentler tannins, less wood and extraction, Colombo is the guy that everyone wants advice from. He won the Gambelli award for best young winemaker in Italy, and he works alongside a winemaker who is a consultant in Barbaresco, who makes the wine at esteemed Bruno Giacosa. They taste together, and talk together. The point is here is, that anything exciting happening in Barolo and Barbaresco, Gian Luca is probably aware of, and likely to be involved with. Gian Luca has a very small production of his own, and we are thrilled to have our hands on these wines.
