Tasting Notes

*Max 3 BOTTLES per customer*'96 – Follow The Line is a deceptively forward Cinsault that’s good to drink on release, but ages remarkably well too. Alluringly ethereal and perfumed, it has what Duncan Savage terms “the purity of 2023”, layers of goji berry, plum and pomegranate and more tannic presence than you appreciate at first. Very refined. Drink 2026 – 2035.' Tim Atkin MW, South Africa Report 2024

More Info

Duncan Savage is at the top of his game and these 2023s showcase what South Africa is capable of. To pinpoint one word for these wines it would be purity. Within the wine trade there are few more sought after wines from the New World, and for the price, it represents truly outstanding value.

FROM THE PRESS

“Perhaps unexpectedly, this was one of the most impressive tastings of my entire trip. In many ways, his (Savage) cryptically-named wines epitomize the heights that South African wines are now achieving.”
Neal Martin, Vinous.com
“...it’s easy-drinking in many ways but still complex. This will be irresistible over the next decade...”
Neal Martin, Vinous.com
“The Savage Wines 2023 Cinsault Follow The Line has a tiny 6% addition of Syrah for extra spice and color. The 2023 vintage is cool, making for lighter-colored wines in general. However, the bouquet here is beautiful. You get lifted red fruit with heritage rose, lavender pastilles and strawberry cream. It is not a massive or powerful wine, nor is it intended to be. It remains soft and pretty, showing definition and clarity. Fruit comes from Darling close to the beach with high winds and a 10-degree drop in temperatures. This bottle underlines the enormous potential of South African Cinsault.”
94pts, Monica Larner, Parker's Wine Advocate
