96 points - 'Duncan Savage is a fan of the "purity and elegance" of the 2023 vintage, comparing it to 2017 and 2021. His eponymous red is now a delicious, pure Syrah from the Langverwagt farm in Kuils River on the edge of Stellenbosch, showing aromas of tobacco leaf, incense and clove, spicy 50% whole bunches and a core of blackberry, plum and tapenade. Duncan Savage is at the top of his game and this 2023 showcases what South Africa is capable of. To pinpoint one word for these wines it would be purity. Within the wine trade there are few more sought after wines from the New World, and for the price, it represents truly outstanding value.

“95 points - The 2023 Red Blend is pure Shiraz picked before the harvest rains: 30% submerged cap, 70% whole cluster, with three weeks on the skins, 13 months in 500-litre barrels and ten months in foudre. It has a beautiful nose with a mixture of blueberry and blackberry fruit, crushed violet and wonderful crushed stone notes. After a time, it reminds me of a medicine cabinet that has been closed a long time. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly briny entry. Fine depth, precise, Cornas-like, with a cool and saline finish, with a marine-influenced finish. Excellent. Drinking Window: 2026 - 2045”
