Tasting Notes
"A marked improvement on the 2021 release, P.J. Geyer's Pinot Noir uses three different clones (113, 115 and 777) from a single parcel on Shaw's Mountain. Savoury spicy and peppery, it has a waft of tobacco leaf and aromatic herbs and a core of redcurrant and summer berry fruit." Drink 2025-2029, 91pts, Tim Atkin MW

The Thamnus wines are a real product of their environment. 10ha of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, nestled on the north-facing slopes in Overberg, overlooking the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. This is cool climate, cool plots and old, unique soils. Even the wineries imagery, using the rare ‘fynbos’ mountain rose as their labelling, shows the affinity for this special spot in South Africa. Style wise, winemaker PJ Geyer is certainly inspired by old-world styling. The deliberate placement of the plots is focused around retaining structure, acidity and gaining minerality in the wines. Very quickly, Thamnus is charming and bewildering highly regarded critics who follow SA closely. We are thrilled to have scooped them and can't wait for them to be sampled!
