Tasting Notes
This is astonishingly beautiful now. On raising the glass to your nose and taking a sip, you don't have to ponder as to the quality and how and when it will reveal itself. This is giving of itself now. I don't think I've enjoyed it so much from the off since the 2001 and 2007. And I don't just mean up front pleasure, I mean with complexity, too. It's got it all going on. This 2020 has wonderful aromas. It's got ripeness, there's some new oak, but not too much (in fact it's just 5% new oak, compared to the 2001, which was 100% new oak) and it dissipates on opening, and there are some amazing flavours in the wine that are hard to define, but which make you think, yes, whatever is happening, please keep happening.

Winemaker Andrea Polidoro, worked for a decade with Cupano founder Lionel Cousin, who died in 2020. He spent many hours humbly learning and listening, and making and blending with Lionel, and with the care, sensitivity and awareness of nature with which Lionel was so in tune. Cupano is certainly in safe hands with Andrea. Cupano is in the area of Camigliano. The vineyard of 6.4 ha is on a stony hill above the Ombrone river with good drainage and high mineral content. It has been shown to be “un vrai, grand terroir”. The estate consists of 35 hectares of organic farming: 6.4ha of vineyard, 2ha of olive oil trees, 18ha of wood, and 8ha of arable land.
