Tasting Notes

"Issuing from a 2.3-hectare west-facing site with stony soils and matured
in 600-liter barrels, Richoux’s 2022 Irancy Veaupessiot bursts from the glass
with a deep bouquet of red cherry, sweet spices, peonies and plum. Medium to
full-bodied, demonstrative and charming, it is structured around velvety
tannins, with a succulent core of fruit and vibrant acidity. It offers considerable mid-palate amplitude and concludes with a long finish. It’s worth buying at least a case, as it promises a broad enjoyment window. Kristaps Karklins – Parker's Wine Advocate, 92-94pts

More Info

If you are to try just one producer from the distant Burgundian village of Irancy, you better make it "its finest grower, Richoux. The baton has been passed from Thierry to his sons, Félix and Gabin, though he is still involved in the running of the estate. One of the principal tenets of Richoux is very long aging in barrel, though, with such differences in vintages, this can lead Irancy Burgundy to a clustering of bottling dates. For example, they plan to bottle the 2020 and 2021 at the same time after the next harvest, the latter deemed to need less time in oak, though that still constitutes two years. At least in 2022, yields are much higher, 53hL/ha according to Félix Richoux, the fruit picked from September 1. What can I say? These are the standout wines of Irancy, and to be honest, there is a gap between Richoux and the rest, their closest rival, Benoît Cantin, whose wines I was unfortunately unable to taste on this occasion. These wines tend to be quite intense in style, their extended élevage lending them real structure and longevity." Neal Martin, Vinous.

“The 2022 Irancy Veaupessiot, matured in 45% new oak (demi-muids), has a vivacious bouquet with raspberry coulis, cranberry, hints of blood orange and wild hedgerow. The oak is seamlessly integrated. The palate is very well-balanced with a succulent entry, fleshier than the Trou Mombart, and slightly candied towards the finish. Maybe the warmth of the summer dictates the finish compared to other cuvées? Still, this will be completely delicious when bottled in a couple of years. ”
