Fred Prinz, Rheingau's Rising Star for Riesling - Sharing vineyards with Germany's best.
Fred Prinz, formerly head winemaker at Kloster Erberbach, is now producing wines under his own label from top vineyards, some shared with renowned winemaker Peter Jacob-Kuhn. Though not widely known outside Germany, his wines offer outstanding quality at excellent value. His family-run estate is organic and biodynamic.
His 'house' Trocken Riesling 2024 is a dazzling wine full of youth and joy. It refreshes and elevates and is super pure.
The Grosses Gewächs from Jungfer is now sadly out of stock! Sorry. However, we have a little amount of their 'village' wine, Hendelberg, which is on offer at £25! It is also superb and extremely well regarded by Vinous, like the other wines-
“The 2023 Riesling Hallgartener Hendelberg, from the core parcel of the site, was harvested when the grapes were golden from vines that are between 10-40 years old on this stony, southfacing site. This was fermented spontaneously, partly in wood, partly in stainless steel. Yeast still swings on the nose, alongside Golden Delicious flesh and a beautiful apple freshness. The palate is stony and has finely chiseled, tart apple fruit that nonetheless spells ripeness and generosity. Zestiness on the finish and a taut, dry core are promises for the future. (Bone-dry) 2026-2050” 92pts, Anne Krebiehl, Vinous.com
