Tasting Notes

Maison Blanche is the 1st wine. It's old vine fruit. The average age is 50 years old. The Cabernet Franc is between 50 to 80 years old. The nose is a bit finer that Les Piliers. The palate is a bit more elegant. Feels very complete and very balanced. Smooth on the finish, drinking well now, but structured with an ability to age, with the classic notes of graphite on the palate you hope to find in Bordeaux, with that characteristic right bank - St Emilion - nose, with charm and some warmth.

Part of a new breed of Bordeaux producer that breaks the mould of the famous Bordeaux chateaux. Maison Blanche are located in Montagne-Saint-Emilion, one of the most picturesque bits of the Libournais on Bordeaux's right bank, has been biodynamic since well before it became fashionable. Demeter-certified since 2013, Maison Blanche produces some of the most deliciously classical, low-intervention, low-sulphur Bordeaux wines on the market, wines of place that are quite atypical in a region widely regarded to have become a winemaking factory beholden to chemical fertilisers and pesticides without any justifiable claim to terroir identity.

“New producer Patrick Garrity arrived from California in 2021, setting up this small estate of 1.7ha, with 50-year-old vines. Fermentation in steel tanks and large oak barrels (10%) before ageing in a mix of new, first- & second-use 300L/350L barrels with 10% in amphora. Very nicely put together with concentrated dark fruit on the palate, spice notes, a hint of wood and ripe tannins adding a glossy feel on the finish. A great effort in only the estate's second vintage. One to watch.”
