The 'Calcaire' of Domaine du Chateau de Messey in Macon-Cruzille is just coming into a lovely drinking window. I've shown it at two tastings recently, and it's been the favourite white. Very delicious, complex and fun. It's got an impressive nose with a touch of ripe apple and citrus, with some beurre noisette and a touch of oak. It very much delivers impressive Burgundy flavours that you might have experienced somewhat in the broader styles of Meursault that are not so common today. Good with fish with butter, beurre blanc, beurre noisette, and with scallops. And with soft cheese. Only 10 dozen. 13% alc.

The Chablis Domaine de Mauperthuis is superb. It does just what you want it to do. With cool but opulent fruit, not a particularly steely Chablis. It's elegant and with hints of oyster shell. Perfect with oysters and bread and butter, and with fish. Mauperthuis have been investing a lot of time in their vineyard, which is organic and biodynamic. It's paying off and this is fabulous. Just the kind of wine that will make you remember what's good about Chablis.12% alc.

St Romain Poillange Domaine Henri et Gilles Buisson 2018 is a wine that we drank this week at our Swig Christmas party. It's so delicious. We've held this back in our cellar as it was talking a long time to mature, but we knew it was interesting and it's finally turned into a swan. St Romain is just next to Meursault - nestled into an amphitheater of vineyards. Poillange is South East facing, but it's high, so it has good balancing tension. Lovely notes of fig, honey, hints of elderflower. It's open and mature now, with nice saline notes. Gorgeous. Only 3 dozen. (The image below is of another vineyard) 13% alc.
