Tasting Notes
*Max 3 BOTTLES per customer* Oh boy are we excited to introduce you to the wines of Danbury Ridge! A more intense nose than their signature Chardonnay, with a little hint of the new oak. Lemon curd, dried hay, baked honeyed oats, and toffee nut crisp, leading to a palate with an extraordinarily seamless, silken texture, and a quiet and persisting energy and poise. Nougat and a little honeysuckle, creamy and lush. Fermented in old Burgundian Oak and 18 months aging on the lees, the Octagon Chardonnay really is perfectly balanced. Power, focus and precision, this is a world beating Chardonnay. Already delicious, but I'm certain will cellar comfortably for years and would without doubt only get better.
More Info
Located in the warmest, dried area of the UK, the first vineyards were planted at Danbury Ridge in 2014, and 2018 was their debut vintage. And as Jancis Robinson said, "what a debut!" Jancis has been a fan ever since, this 2022 vintage scoring a hefty 17.5/20 from her. The focus here has, and always will be still wines, and with the climate they have, and the ripeness levels the grapes are reaching, one can certainly see why. When Swig was founded, who knew one day we would be talking about the brilliance of Essex terroir! We firmly believe that Danbury Ridge have raised the bar exponentially for English still wine, and we're so excited to join them at the beginning of their journey. Now onto their 2022, a year marked with glorious warmth and growing conditions, producing this rare, limited parcel of joy you see before you.
