Tasting Notes
Drum roll please...Roccheviberti came out top of the Comune wines of 2022 in a blind tasting of 50 wines, conducted by the Barolo Boys. "Pale garnet. A subtle nose packed with intense and complex aromas: red cherry and grapefruit peel. Roses, Chinese five spice, and cumin. In the background, red plum reminiscent of ripe Pinot Noir. Anise seed and wet stone. Creamy acidity and fine-grained, chalky tannins coat the palate, enhancing aromas of thyme, rosemary, and faint white flowers. The evolution on the palate is non-stop, with a finish that lingers for minutes. Roccheviberti didn’t just nail a wine; it explained the meaning of a category. A complex, fine wine from an old-vine blend of two of Barolo’s most iconic vineyards (Bricco Boschis and Rocche di Castiglione): not overpriced and better than most single crus out there. Masterpiece." Nelson Pari, Federico Moccia, Jacopo Dosio (The Barolo Boys)

The Barolo Boys Annual Report was started in order to shed light on this exciting category and they've done it again, selecting this charming example from a vintage that wasn't kind to the region. We expect this wine to arrive with us in March/April but you can pre-order now to secure your case. In an interview with Claudio Viberti he says " From an economic point of view, I didn’t want to make this wine. But I realised I needed an “entry-level” Barolo for my winery. I was afraid of getting stuck in the world of classic Barolo blends and in that of Barolo del Comune, so I decided to make a blend of the old vines I have to give it a bit of grit and do something truly different. This is a blend of 60% Rocche di Castiglione and 40% Bricco Boschis, with vines over 60 years old (as the rest, in any case, are around 50…). Roccheviberti mainly speaks about the Rocche di Castiglione cru, and that has to come through immediately, even in this communal wine: pale color, sweet spices, finesse, and elegance."
