Tasting Notes
Lemon oil, spring blossom, pineapple bon bons and a silky base of pea-shoot tinged texture. This is Northern French to the core, but with a sunny juicy disposition from the hot 2022 vintage, and a just enough of a buttery note. Very long and stony on the finish. Delightful.
More Info
The brain child of Laurent & Marie-Noelle Ternynck, they are bringing a new energy and passion to this little corner of Auxerre. Well on their way to organic certification and utilising some biodynamic principles too, winemaking is in a similar vein - no additions whatsoever other than minimal SO2, and judicious use of oak. They farm around 20ha of vineyards on some of the best south-facing slopes in Chablis, along with some of the exciting yet unsung Burgundy appellations south-east of Auxerre like St-Bris, Chitry and Irancy. They are also experimenting with amphora for ageing both whites and reds – pretty rare in the relatively staid environs of Chablis. Whatever the appellation, Mauperthuis’ wines strike a consistent balance between approachability, typicity and terroir focus.
