Tasting Notes
Superb Cape Bordeaux blend that you can put against wines that cost a great deal more. A warmth and charm on first nosing: lovely gentle brush, baked plums, cocoa, and a scattering of fennel seeds and a tinge of old wood and bramble fruit. There's such a deft touch to the palate - it has a lovely lift and the most delectable dark chocolate minty note coupled with warm herbal tones, like putting your nose into a paper bag of the best Isle of Wight tomatoes, and some pipe tobacco. 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot, 18% Malbec & 12% Petit Verdot, aged in barrel for 2 years.

We love our visits to Buitenverwachting, set in Constantia’s oldest and most prized vineyard, as much for the people as for its wines and beautiful setting. The ever-genial host and owner, Lars Maack, is always smiling. He is joined by Brad Paton, who is one of the most lovely and talented winemakers around.
