Tasting Notes
Beautiful ripe, blackcurrant, polished fruit, new oak, but not that perceptible, generous but with good balance, a little spice and some tobacco and cedar notes emerging with more time open. Smooth. Very gorgeous mouthful of red wine. It's an amazing buy, as like the Maillet, there is a feel and taste of luxury about it. And I just haven't tasted anything like it from Bordeaux of this kind of right bank Merlot style at this price. fully expected this to be a £30 bottle and was amazed when I saw the cost. Utter bargain.
More Info
Another great wine from the Moze Berthon family, a family which have been involved in wine in this area of Bordeaux since the 1820s, but around 12 years ago they took the step of hiring the an internationally renowned winemaker and part owner of famous Chateau Angelus. It is having a significant impact on the quality. I gather the locals are abuzz about this modest family producer, who can see that the potential of this terroir is finally being fulfilled, but without the fanfare or prices that come with some of the famous names around here.
