If you are to try just one producer from the distant Burgundian village of Irancy, you better make it "its finest grower, Richoux. The baton has been passed from Thierry to his sons, Félix and Gabin, though he is still involved in the running of the estate. One of the principal tenets of Richoux is very long aging in barrel, though, with such differences in vintages, this can lead Irancy Burgundy to a clustering of bottling dates. For example, they plan to bottle the 2020 and 2021 at the same time after the next harvest, the latter deemed to need less time in oak, though that still constitutes two years. At least in 2022, yields are much higher, 53hL/ha according to Félix Richoux, the fruit picked from September 1. What can I say? These are the standout wines of Irancy, and to be honest, there is a gap between Richoux and the rest, their closest rival, Benoît Cantin, whose wines I was unfortunately unable to taste on this occasion. These wines tend to be quite intense in style, their extended élevage lending them real structure and longevity." Neal Martin, Vinous.
