Tasting Notes
Just 1200 half bottles produced, as a sibling to previous outstanding releases no 63 and no 98. This is an incredibly rare and extremely old Oloroso drawn from a single cask, surely close to 90 years old. Years before, this very cask was marked "NO" by the bodega, meaning it was removed from the main solera, allowing its age to climb quickly. On tasting, it silenced the entire room: mega concentrated, with proper chewy salty Danish liquorice, bitter nuts, molasses, bright acidity and a long, succulent finish.
More Info
It is a remarkable turn of events how two friends: sherry fanatic, wine writer and criminology professor Jesús Barquín and Eduardo Ojeda, technical director at Grupo Estevez (which includes the renown sherry houses of Valdespino and La Gitana) have gone from solely bottling special wines for themselves and their friends, to becoming one of the most celebrated producers of the region. Browse Jancis Robinson's website, and you'll find more articles and high scores about their wines than likely any other producer, period! Far from being a conventional producer, as they do not actually make any wine, at the heart of what Equipo Navazos do is the selection process, not necessarily of the best or oldest soleras, but of the most striking individual butts neglected in the corners of a number of Andalusia's most prestigious bodegas.
