Tasting Notes
Upfront aromas of fresh stone fruit and lightly poached pear follow through to a complex palate with layers of yellow grapefruit and nectarines, a vibrant acidity and hints ginger and citrus-esque galangal on the finish. This wine is best served at10 to 12 °C and will benefit from ageing. Predominantly Chenin Blanc, followed by Semillon, Clairette Blanche, Grenache Blanc and Viognier. The Chenin sourced from old, dry-farmed vines bring great texture to the wine, whilst the Semillon and Viognier provide opulent aromatics, and the Clairette and Grenache contribute a welcoming freshness and salinity. After the 2 relatively cool, slow and late vintages we experienced in 2022 and 2023, the 2024 vintage was more classic for the Swartland with some pretty warm days across the whole growing season. This brought out the textural side in our 2024 Old Vines White.
More Info
Founding members of the Swartland Revolution, five times winner Platter Guide Winery of the Year, and The Wine Enthusiast's Winemaker of the Year 2016, Chris and Andrea Mullineux are one serious power couple. Based just outside of Riebeek Kasteel on their farm Roundstone, their ambition is bottle wines that are a true expression of the Swartland. Its granite, schist and iron soils, its wind swept sites, old vines, hot climate and long, dry Summers. With Chris in charge of the vineyards and viticulture, and Andrea at the helm in the cellar, it has been a joy to see the incredible quality coming out of the estate year on year. Are there any more talented duos in South Africa? I don't think anyone would question it.
