Jessica's Nom Pinot grows more assured with every new vintage. Cotes de Nuits in style, with a lick of cherry wood, cinnamon stick, orange rind and wood spice. Simultaneously warming and fine, with such charm and grace. Nom stands for Nombulelo (gratitude in Xhosa) and Nomkhubulwane (a forgotten African goddess of agriculture) Situated at 700m altitude, the mighty Kaaimansgaat vineyard is a place where gratitude is instilled and tales appear.
Since Jessica Saurwein produced her first wine at Stellenbosch University, she has been trying to redeem her family’s reputation in wine. Steeped in the history of 17th century winemaking, her forefathers made “sour” wine for the Duke of Austria! Luckily, now Jessica makes Pinot Noir rather than sour wine.
FROM THE PRESS
“Nom is (just) the better of the two wines in 2020. Fresh, graceful and perfumed, it's like a Cape Chambolle-Musigny, with haunting perfume, finegrained, savoury tannins, red cherry and raspberry fruit and engaging freshness. Drink 2022-27”Tim Atkin MW, SA Report 2021
