Tasting Notes

A sensational small production release from Danbury Ridge. Just released, this first edition is absolutely gorgeous. Being fuller, more golden in colour and flavour, with notes of malt, and baked apple pie, buttery pastry, with layers of fruit and complexity, with some delicious oxidative notes, with a fine core of acidity, it is rather different from the other English fizzes we know, which are crisper. Although this is still completely dry. At just over 4g/l dosage, that puts it in the extra brut category (if Champagne) and make it drier that most English sparklings. A triumph!

FROM THE PRESS

“"Deep golden straw colour. Really quite a rich, ripe nose of stewed apricots that's slightly at odds with the high acidity on the palate but it certainly makes a statement! Markedly gentle bead. Bone-dry finish. Dosage (4.8 g/l in the sample I tasted in September 2022) is well judged. No hint of excess sweetness. Well done!"”

“The resulting wine is radiant and expressive, offering notes of apricot, blood orange and orange blossom as well as a pronounced almond nuttiness and subtle oxidative complexity. At its core is a tightly wound acidity that tempers the wine’s appealing broadness. Solstice is a striking and distinctive wine that feels squarely aimed at those who like their sparkling wine to be textural and nuanced. Overall, this is a fascinating addition to the Danbury Ridge line-up.”
