Tasting Notes
This organic Zweigelt Reserve from Christoph Bauer is a beauty and has become a team favourite here at Swig. Wonderfully delicious and interesting! It really shines with a grazing board of sturdy mountain cheeses and cured meats, which is why it's great for wine bars. Its character of juicy fruit, blueberry, ripe blackcurrant, hints of a black forest gateaux, light pepper and gorgeous oak spice. The nose also captivates with violets and the fruits you get on the palate. Beautifully plush and velvety, you notice different notes each time you raise it to your nose.
More Info
Christoph Bauer's passion for organic viticulture and their local varieties has blown us away. After studying in Austria, Christoph worked in Italy, South Africa and Australia gaining a wealth of experience and confidence that shines through in his wines, before returning to run the family vineyard that was established in 1935. But this isn't a one man machine, his wife Heidi, children and parents are all integral to this truly family run winery. We absolutely love these wines and their purity. If only more restaurants had wine as good at this as one of their decently priced wines, rather than their under £40 selection being dominated by extremely high volume production mainstream Malbec, Merlot, Tempranillo, Shiraz, and Pinot Noir that's pretty much unrecognizable, maybe a Montepulciano or Primitivo, or a very basic Rioja.
