Like snowdrops in January this wine is our perennial harbinger of Spring. Always the first of the Northern Hemisphere's most recent vintage to land in our cellars, it brings a joie de vivre into our kitchen in the winter months just when it's needed. Exciting both to nose and drink, it's got the wonderful aromatics we've come to know, with lifted citrus and herbaceous notes, and tanginess and crunchy ripe apple on the palate. It's got a pleasing intensity but it's not pungent. It fills the mouth with flavour yet it remains restrained. The Sauvignon Blanc is softened by the local Gros Manseng grape, which also adds some dimension to the texture. There isn't a more expensive wine that could give me more pleasure when I'm wanting these kinds of flavours and refreshment. It's no wonder it's been one of our most popular wines for years.

Horgelus has long been one of our best value whites for the price. Located in the pretty Gascon village of Montréal du Gers in the foothills of the Pyrenées, on the pilgrimage route of Santiago de Compostela. Winemaker Yoan Le Menn has not put a foot wrong in the 15 years we have known him. His wines never fail to delight.
